Group Therapy

What is group therapy?

Group therapy is a dynamic and interactive approach for emotional healing. For teenagers and pre-teens, it can be especially effective. As a matter of fact, how, when, or if a teen feels connected to others affects much of an adolescent’s emotional development. During the session, we encourage them to explore who they are, who they want to become, and safely discuss questions or issues that come up during this tumultuous period of their lives. Instead of meeting with a counselor for individual or family therapy, we welcome a teen into one of our groups as an equal. Although our therapists facilitate the groups, it is really the group as a whole that drives the interaction. This all happens with great excitement, bravery, or sometimes with trepidation. In any case, they are stretching their comfort levels with the knowledge that their peers support them. To watch Kent talk about the benefits of group therapy for teens click here.
